Leitz Tooling Wins Machine Tooling Innovators of the Year 2026 from the Design & Build Awards 2026
Continuing its streak of industry-leading achievements,
Leitz Tooling has been named Machine Tooling Innovators of the Year at the
prestigious 2026 Design & Build Awards. This accolade highlights the
company’s pivotal role in transforming the modern manufacturing landscape
through groundbreaking product design, commitment to quality and technical
support.
The Design & Build Awards, hosted by BUILD Magazine,
celebrate the pioneers who set new benchmarks in craftsmanship and technical
excellence. Leitz was specifically recognised for its "forward-thinking
approach to production efficiency" and its commitment to bridging the gap
between hardware and digital machine communication.
Leitz Tooling is celebrating a landmark year of technical
breakthroughs. From the record-breaking performance of the LIGNUM window system
to pioneering a universal digital language for the industry, Leitz continues to
lead the furniture and joinery sectors into a more efficient, sustainable
future.
Lignum
timber casement window sets new testing benchmark
The Joinery Network’s Lignum range has emerged as one of the
UK’s highest-performing window and door systems following rigorous independent
testing.
The timber casements and double doors achieved the highest
possible classifications for watertightness, air permeability, and wind
resistance. Outperforming many PVC-U and aluminium alternatives. Key highlights
include zero water ingress at 600Pa (equivalent to 70mph wind-driven rain) and
full compliance with the latest PAS24:2022 standards across the range,
including the new traditional Conservation Casement.
New Solutions for Panel processing:
Complementing the high-performance window systems, the new Leitz
ProfilCut Q Diamond for edge processing has become a game changer for furniture
manufacturers focused on efficiency. This tool specifically addresses the
"hidden costs" of traditional diamond tooling.
Unlike traditional diamond tools that shrink after
sharpening, this system maintains a constat diameter after sharpening,
eliminating the need for time consuming machine adjustments or reprogramming
after maintenance. Its polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting edges last up to
20 times longer than standard carbide. With a lightweight aluminium tool body that
is reusable and knives that can be resharpened multiple times, it can reduce
overall tooling costs by up to 40% while supporting significantly faster
production speeds.
Leitz has also redesigned its leading WhisperCut PLUS
milling cutters to be even more economical. Now featuring an extended
resharpening area, the WhisperCut PLUS can now be sharpened more times before
its end of life, passing on savings to customers.
Hydro Planerhead for textured timber surfaces:
In the construction industry, the demand for rustic timber
facades with a rough sawn look is increasing, Leitz has responded to this
growing demand with a new tool design. The new Hydro planer head system creates
a “rough sawn” look through detailed planning applications.
The system offers consistently optimum machining results thanks to perfect concentricity and features both Marathon coated knives and a coated tool body for increased wear resistance and faster machining. Designed for simple grinding, this system is very cheap to service and offers a 80% reduction in sharing costs compared to HS planer knife systems due to its extended tool life and simple sharpening process.
